The Institution of Engineers, commonly known as IEI, stands as India's premier multidisciplinary professional body, representing 15 diverse engineering disciplines and serving as a global hub for engineers to exchange professional insights. Boasting a membership exceeding 9 lakhs, IEI, founded in 1920 with its headquarters in Kolkata, has an illustrious history spanning over a century of dedicated service to the engineering community and the nation. Incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935, IEI holds the revered distinction of being the sole professional body in India accorded such an honour. Today, it upholds a legacy of professional excellence, earning recognition and esteem across prestigious organisations worldwide. Operating in collaboration with professional engineers, academicians, and research professionals, IEI offers a wide spectrum of technical, professional, and supportive services to government bodies, industries, academia, and the engineering community. With a network spanning 124 State/Local Centres, seven Fora nationwide, and entities such as the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) in Hyderabad, alongside six Overseas Chapters, IEI stands distinguished as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) sanctioned by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. The institution extends Grant-in-Aid to UG/PG/PhD students in Engineering Institutes & Universities to drive research and development initiatives. Additionally, IEI administers the International Professional Engineers (IntPE) Register for India under the global International Professional Engineers Alliance and bestows the esteemed International Professional Engineers (IntPE) Certification.
The aim of the Indian Engineering Congress is to bring to fore the developments in various fields of engineering and prepare our engineers to face the future challenges for sustainable development of the country.
